My Musical Journey

Hello there ! I'm Rebekka Braziel and I'm a huge music enthusiast! I've never been gifted to sing or play an instrument (but I did do a little of piano in high school) but I do love listening to it. I'm currently a Psychology major at the moment but I might want to double in something cultural. I've grown up in South Carolina my whole life, but I do wish to see the world and travel when I get older. My current music taste is all over the place at the moment from Megan Thee Stallion to Fleetwood Mac to TWICE. I mainly listen to hip/hop and Kpop but I do love some oldies as well. Another thing about me is that I'm on the tennis team, I've been playing it for 7 years and love every minute of it. I guess that's all for now, now enjoy some YouTube videos :)

Now I know we only had to put songs we liked at the moment but I couldn't just leave these out. So I just put two I have been currently obsessed with or in love with for a very long time. They are actually different genres, and feels. The first one is Window Down by Big Time Rush, overall this song is just a feel-good song. Like I mean who wasn't watching BTR when they were a kid, they all had bangers to be honest. This one stood out to me the most just because of the drop, it's just a song that wants me to get up and dance around. Better yet just roll my windows down and blare it down the road with my friends. This honestly a song me and my best friend Aaliyah (in the picture above) share when we go on road trips. It just has a very likable beat, and the lyrics are easy to keep up with as well.

Next song on my list is Fancy by TWICE, it's a splash of Korean and English lyrics with some catchy dance moves. I put this song on my list because I just absolutely fell in love with it. I just love how the members' voices go so well with the beat of the song. Also the dance to this is just so fun and cute to learn, and this song can literally take me out of any bad moods. It's just one of those songs for me that can cheer me up and get me moving or even singing.

A song that I connect with or that has a deep meaning to me is Epiphany by Jin. This song message is something I deeply connect with and still do. Epiphany is about realizing self worth and love, this song came out on August 9, 2018. This was a really rough year for me because I was having self image issues. Just to cut it short I didn't like my body nor feel like I was worth being something to somebody. Now I have been a fan of BTS music since 2016 but when this song came out. It's like something just clicked, even though the lyrics are mostly in Korean. I learned them, I learned the meaning behind the music and it just really helped me cope with everything. It just made me realize I had a purpose, and that I should love myself , not others. As the song quotes "I'm the one I should love in this world" and I live by that till this day. Thank you :)

Now a song or just a group I can't just seem too like is Pentatonix. I have no reason why but it's just I can't hear the voices, how the songs are produced. Also I just don't really connect with groups like that, who are acapella. I've tried listening to them covering my favorite artists' songs but it's just not the same. It just doesn't connect with me, or have a special meaning to me.

  1. Hi Bekka!! I absolutely love any Big Time Rush song. I'm always excited when I find that someone also loves them as much as I do! During this summer I can tell you the amount of time I play "Windows Down". To say listening to them and it just brings back memories is an understatement. Not only does listening to Big Time Rush bring back memories but it also makes me remember my feelings during the time, how much laughter they brought me and even the crush on James I had. You really chose some great songs because you even made me interested in K-Pop when I've always shot it down in the past.

  2. Big Time Rush is a cultural masterpiece and "Windows Down" is definitely one of the best summer anthems. I can even remember when it came on Nickelodeon for the first time during a commercial break and how hard I jammed out to it. I've also never really listened to much K-Pop, but I know that artists put a lot of emotion into their lyrics that listeners and fans can connect with, which is awesome.

  3. Hi Bekka! That's great to hear that you also like Kpop. I listen to Twice occasionally, but I tend to lean towards boy groups more often. I saw your comment on my blog, and I'm glad to see that you are enjoying Thunderous as well (can you believe they've won 6 times in one comeback?). Beside "Thunderous" and "Cheese", I would have to say that "Silent Cry", "SSICK", "Red Lights" or "Sorry, I Love You" would be my next favorite song from the album. (Honestly I can't choose a favorite). Besides SKZ and TXT, I also enjoy Ateez, NCT, The Rose, A.C.E, Enhypen (can you tell I like 4th gen boy groups?), Dreamcatcher, Everglow, and Itzy. Hopefully we can talk more about Kpop in the future (and maybe even go to a concert together once they're in person again)!

  4. Honestly, the only thing I can relate to you on is the Pentatonix thing! I appreciate the talent that goes into groups like that, but i’ve never really been able to connect with the sound. I think your taste is super cool nonetheless, and I love hearing about what your music means to you!!
